eShop (not to be confused with eStore) seems to be the crowd’s choice when it comes to free shopping cart solutions for WordPress. What makes this plugin unique is that it’s not only free, but it is also full of features, reliable, and on top of all easy-to-use!
But before you make a decision, read this review to understand what you’re getting into.
Ease of Use and Installation
eShop stands out for its clarity and ease of use. There’s only one top-level menu. Underneath this menu you can find all of eSho’s screens. The user-interface is very professionally designed and laid out.
Installation is a breeze. You can simply download it onto your plugin’s folder and activate it, or use the Add Plugin feature of WordPress 2.8+.
Supported Payment Gateways
eShop supports Authorize.net, PayPal, Payson, eProcessingNetwork, Webtopay, and iDEAL.
Selling Digital Products
eShop does allow you to sell digital products. You have to host the files on the same server as eShop, though.
Documentation and Support
Unfortunately, eShop lacks the usual comprehensive documentation that some of the other shopping cart plugins have. But in its place you get dedicated, free, professional-quality support in the eShop support forum. You also get some video tutorials.
And keep in mind that the author has put a lot of effort into making the plugin intuitive and easy to use. That’s not to say that reading instructions and the documentation isn’t necessary, but ease-of-use should keep the need for docs at a minimum.
