YAK (Yet Another Kart) is a fully featured shopping cart solution for WordPress. And it is free! If you’re running or planning small/mid sized online store, you might find YAK useful.
Installation, Setup, and Usage
Installation of the plugin is straightforward, just like other regular WordPress plugins.
But like other shopping cart plugins, before you start adding your products, you should do the initial configuration. That is, supply information of your stock, payment, etc.
YAK’s user interface is more intuitive than some of the other WordPress solutions that I’ve checked.
After you’ve made the initial configuration, you start adding products in the form of WordPress posts and pages. For YAK to recognize your products, you’ll have to add them to the custom designated categories.
This is explained in more detailed in the free documentation, which brings me to the next section.
Documentation and Support
The author, Jason Briggs, is constantly listening and interacting with users of his plugin. He’s always improving the plugin. You can get support by posting a question in the dedicated WordPress support forum or Google Groups support page.
Brief (but somewhat sufficient) documentation is provided for free on the plugin’s page. If you want more comprehensive documentation on how to setup your WordPress shopping cart website with YAK and integrate it with the various payment processing providers, you’ll have to purchase the YAK Handbook for around US$30.
And if your budget is big enough to outsource all the headache of starting up a WordPress shopping website, you can either get a hosted/managed account with Jason Briggs or hire him for customization work. You’ll have to contact him directly to arrange for that.
