FasterIM Opt-In: Build Your Own Opt-in for WordPress in 5 Minutes

As its name implies, FasterIM Opt-In is a WordPress plugin that specifically deals with creating opt-in pop-ups. Some people might need a full-blown pop-up plugin solution, but for those only needing a quick, painless way to display opt-in forms, this plugin might be a good match. Have a read.

Ease of Use and Installation

FasterIM Opt-in is a pretty simple plugin that only needs to be uploaded and activated before you can use it. The plugin’s options page is quite simple, but it does what it needs to do (i.e. helping you create an opt-in form) relatively well. Here’s a screenshot for the options page (click for the bigger version):

Support and Documentation

First, the bad. There is no mention whatsoever about support, so assume you’re on your own when using this plugin. Also, the only provided documentations are the tutorial video on the plugin’s landing page plus a few screenshots of the plugin options. If what you need matches perfectly with what the plugin provides, then great. Otherwise keep in mind that the plugin severely lacks in this area.

Opt-in e-mail List Support and Compatibility

Now, the good thing is that this is probably the best plugin when it comes to opt-in form support. It supports Aweber, GetResponse, 1ShoppingCart, DirectResponders and FreeAutoBot.com. What makes it best, though, is that the plugin author accepts support request for any other autoresponder, meaning that the plugin potentially supports every autoresponder on the planet. That is great.

Types of Pop-up

The plugin allows for three kinds of pop-up:

  • Entry pop-up
  • Delayed pop-up
  • Repeated pop-up, where you can set your pop-up to show up after every certain minutes pass.

Stylability and Placements

You can set the pop-up’s width, height, and you can upload an image to accompany the e-mail form. That is all. Further stylings will require you to go deep with CSS which, again, is undocumented whatsoever. You can pick on which page the pop-up should show up or simply order it to show up on all pages. The plugin comes with two widgets that you can use to display your opt-in form on widget areas (say, a sidebar) instead of as a pop-up.

Lightbox and Other Effects

The plugin supports Lightbox effect that you can either turn on or off.

How it Deals with Pop-up Blockers

The pop-up is coded with simple HTML and JS directly embedded into your current page’s HTML code, so it pretty much will not be detected by pop-up blockers.

Pricing and Licensing

The plugin is completely free. There is no clear license, though, but I assume you can use it anytime and anywhere you want.

Missing Features

  • Custom Pop-up Contents. This pretty much an opt-in only pop-up plugin.
  • Multimedia Support.
  • Design Templates.
